About

Between engineering, production, and creative practice.

Glitched, cybernetic portrait of Jason Hendrik Harvey: a bearded man with glasses, half of his face built from circuit boards and brass gears, on a distorted CRT screen with colour bars.

Profile

I am a creative technologist and developer based in Montréal. My work sits between software engineering, production technology, and creative implementation, and I move between those disciplines as projects require.

At the National Film Board of Canada I work on the technical infrastructure that supports media production: resource management tools, render farm operations, interoperability between production applications and devices, and automation.

Independently, through illusionTechnique, I develop interactive installations, custom creative tools, and experimental systems that explore real-time media, physical computing, and AI-assisted production.

Approach

  • Tools that fit the workSoftware should be shaped by how people actually produce, not the reverse.
  • Operational reliabilityInfrastructure and automation need to be understandable, maintainable, and supportable.
  • Prototype to productionExperiments are useful when they can inform practical systems.
